Education globally has been dominated by two ideologies. They are Traditionalism and Progressivism.

Science, specifically cognitive science has only entered the mainstream of education research in the last 10 years or so, before then it functioned on the sidelines and its insights were ignored, dismissed or misrepresented by people of influence in the global education system to further the spread of these two ideologies.

However as cognitive scientists became aware of the invalidity of educational theories it has moved into the mainstream. In the UK Bloggers such as a ‘Andrew Old’, ‘Robert Peal (Civitas), David Didau, and  authors such as John Hattie and Geoff Petty  have done much to publicise the science.  The latter two are undermined by fatal errors in the calculations done by Hattie. At present Daisy Christodoulou’s is the most prominent UK author.

Contemporary cognitive science favours traditional teaching, not because it follows a scientific ideology, it does not, but because the evidence supports large part of its practice .
